Move over Grey’s Anatomy, I have a new guilty pleasure…parenting podcasts. Okay, they’re not exactly a guilty pleasure but they do provide a welcome relief from endlessly feeding kids or wiping bottoms.
I think I was a bit late jumping on the podcast wagon. Yet, these days I consult them for everything from parenting, to faith, decluttering and more.
On a particularly bad day or when I’m looking for an answer to a kid-related problem, these parenting podcasts are where I turn for some expertise and encouragement. You will notice they are almost a copy of my Favourite Parenting Books list. This is because I value the wisdom of these individuals and have implemented many of the strategies they suggest.
Our home isn’t always calm and sometimes the kids don’t listen but having tools in my pocket definitely help me to feel less overwhelmed by parenting. Have a listen!
Happy Families with Dr Justin Coulson
Justin offers so much wisdom on all aspects of parenting. Each week he answers a listener question on a wide variety of issues. His advice is always gracious and practical. Episodes are typically around 10 minutes so you can easily listen while you complete a mundane household chore.
Simple Families with Denaye Barahona
Denaye has a PhD in Child Development and is a mum of two young children. She does two podcasts a week and seems to have endless ideas to share on every aspect of parenting. She tackles everyday parenting issues with practical and helpful advice that is accessible and simple to implement.
Parental as Anything with Maggie Dent
I love this parenting podcast! As a mum of four boys and a well-known parenting author and educator, Maggie draws on many years of experience. Her manner is approachable and warm and I wish she was in my family so I could just call and have a chat! She offers wise counsel on a range of issues that we all face as parents.
The Simplicity Parenting Podcast with Kim John Payne
Just like the book of the same name, this parenting podcast is incredibly helpful for anyone who is aiming for a calmer and less cluttered family life. My children have definitely benefited from implementing many of Kim John Payne’s suggestions around routine, environment and activities. The advice he offers is steeped in his experience as a father and as a school counselor, adult educator, consultant, researcher, educator and a private family counselor.
The Art of Decluttering
This may not be a parenting podcast, but I have included it in the list because it has had a profound impact on my home and our family life. Kirsty and Amy are mothers who run a professional organising business. Each episode tackles a room or an area of your life where you can reduce clutter. I suggest listening from episode one and making your way to the most recent. My home and life feel so much lighter since listening to this podcast. Well worth adding to your library!
If you get these experts in your ears while driving, cleaning, relaxing with a cuppa or exercising, I guarantee you will learn something new and helpful almost every time.
