You’re Two Today

To our happy, hilarious, handful.

Today you are two. I bought your cake from Woolworths. Your sisters played with your toys before you had a look-in. I didn’t arrange a big party. Sorry about the third-child syndrome and all that. But this is your story. It is unique to you and hopefully, all that really matters is that you are cherished.

As you transform from a baby to a toddler, you are proving to be one strong-minded young lady. You’ve learned to assert yourself by shouting, defend yourself through scratching and draw all the love and cuddles you need between the hours of 10.30pm and 6am. Every. Single. Night.

I love you beyond words. Your cheekiness and playful antics add joy to family life. Although your big personality has been known to stretch me to my limits, I adore getting to know you better with each passing day.

It is heartwarming to watch your sisters regularly smother you with their love and affection. Sometimes you are caught in the middle of their rivalry but only inasmuch as the battles wages over who can love you more.

You still don’t really sleep much. I can hardly believe I have survived two years on negligible sleep. But I hold high hopes that one day soon you might change your mind about the whole sleep thing and start to hold it in high esteem.

Our Thea – bringer of light to our lives, our gift from God. I would end by saying something sentimental like, “Always just be you”, but such words are superfluous. You know no other way. Happy birthday, baby girl.

Love,
Mum
