Maybe Ooshies Aren’t so Bad After all

I think I might take back what I said last week about Woolworths Ooshies. I still think they promote excess plastic and parental torment but now I believe they can also change your life!

Big Ooshie news is that a local mum from my area, the Northern Beaches of Sydney, is about to cash in BIG TIME. She is one of the lucky few to land a “rare” Baby Yoda ooshie. There are only 100 of these cute little guys in circulation in the whole of Australia and she has hit the jackpot.

The savvy shopper listed the item for $100 on Saturday. Five days later, it is currently sitting at $99, 900!! For a piece of plastic….with a furry coat! Cha-CHING!

I know I said I regretted bullying (in a nice way) a fellow shopper into giving me her unwanted Ooshies. I have changed my mind. In light of the evident money-making potential of these plastic proliferating critters, it’s survival of the fittest. I am suddenly greatly in favour of the campaign. In fact, I probably won’t shop elsewhere until every last Baby Yoda has been claimed.

I can finally empathise with Charlie’s disappointment each time he missed out on one of those golden tickets. Yes, his family was starving and all that and I just have bathrooms that need renovating but the thrill of it all is the same.

I promise, if I find a rare Ooshie and achieve anything near how much this one is set to sell for, I will donate a portion to a recycling charity. Pinky swear.

What truly baffles me is who spends that much money on a tiny freebie toy from the supermarket. Or do they? In previous years, rare Ooshie auctions have achieved similar sums of money and then bidders have not paid. Let’s hope history doesn’t repeat itself. I do love a good news story.

May the force be with Woolies shoppers clinging to the hope of finding an Ultra Rare Furry Baby Yoda in the coming weeks.

What would you spend a bonus $100,000 on?

Oh, it takes a big person to admit they’ve changed their mind. Good luck with the Ooshie hunt, Roxanne!

Not sure about your $100,000 question. I’d like to travel more, and Australia is on my list, as is Scandinavia with my kids, but now that may be only ‘in my dreams’.

Hope you realise those dreams. Maybe you’ll “find your rare Ooshie” in some way or another!
